They arrived in the small town of Fort Campbell shortly after midnight. They had ridden quickly and in silence. Quickly locating the bank they tied their horses up in the back. The street was deserted at that time so they didn't have to worry about anyone overseeing their activities. Using some tools, Jason opened the back door and they quietly slipped in."Ok Macrae you take lookout, Proops and Mahone you look around the manager's office, me and Colin will start working on the vault," instructed Vranch. Everybody nodded and quickly went about their jobs.
"Well?" whispered Colin as Vranch looked over the vault.
"Good news is we don't have any bars to get through. All we have to do is open the vault."
"Should we blow it?"
"Only as a last option. If we do it quiet we'll have more time to get away."
"Guess what?" announced Jason as he came out of the office.
"What?"
"The manager has a private safe in his office."
"Forget it, we'll need all our time to get this one open."
"Not thanks to our good buddy the bank manager."
"What the hell do you mean?"
"He must be new at the job 'cause when we were looking around Mahone found a piece of paper tacked to the underside of one of the drawers. Looks like Mr. Bank Manager was afraid of forgetting the combination so he wrote them down," Jason smiled as he held out the piece of paper.
"Well we'll have to thank him later for having shit for brains," laughed Vranch as he took the paper.
"The first code is for the safe in his office. Mahone is in there now emptying the stuff into a bag."
"That only leaves one left," muttered Vranch as he started to twist the dial. A minute later, the heavy door opened with a groan. Exchanging smiles, they opened the door the rest of the way and started to load the money into bags. They were almost finished when JD came back from the manager's office.
"How's it going?" asked JD, looking in curiously.
"Great, just great kid," muttered Colin as he filled the last bag.
"Did you get everything?" asked Jason.
"Yep, it's all here," answered JD as he held out the bag.
"I'll take that." Jason smiled as he grabbed the bag.
"And I'll take these," added Vranch as he grabbed JD's guns from out of their holsters.
"Hey what do you think you're doing?" protested JD.
"Hey Macrae get in here," called Vranch.
"Is the job completed?" asked Ezra coming back in.
"Almost," smiled Colin as he held his gun to JD's head.
"I'm going to have to take your guns now," said Vranch moving forwards.
"What's going on?" demanded Ezra as his guns were taken out of there holsters.
"It's called a double-cross," answered Jason. "You should know what that is. After all, you're the one who taught me. Don't forget about the one he keeps up his sleeve."
"Almost missed that one," Vranch grinned as he took Ezra's derringer.
"Now get into the vault."
"Gentlemen, I ask you to reconsider your actions..."
"Shut up and get into the vault," snarled Colin. Seeing that they had no other choice, Ezra and JD walked into the vault and the door was closed after them. Sighing, Ezra ran his hands through his hair before sitting down onto the ground.
"What do we do now?" asked JD, staring at the door.
"We wait until the bank opens tomorrow and someone opens the vault."
"Then what?"
"Then we will no doubt be charged with bank robbery and arrested."
"They can't arrest us. We'll tell them what's going on, how we're working undercover and then they'll understand and let us go."
"Oh yes, that should go well," Ezra replied sarcastically. "They're not going to believe a word we say, if they even listen to us. We will be caught in the act after all."
"We can wire Four Corners. The judge will vouch for us."
"If we live that long."
"Well there has to be something we can do," demanded JD, frustrated.
"If you have any suggestions as to what we may do now, I'm open to hearing them."
"Well..." JD started but became silent when he couldn't think of anything. With a sigh, he joined Ezra on the floor. Occupied with their own thoughts they fell into silence.
"When I get back to Four Corners I'm going to invite Casey to that Spring Dance that Mrs. Travis is organizing," JD decided, trying to think of anything but the situation that they were in. They had been sitting in silence for about a half an hour and he was tired of looking at the small dingy room.
"Casey? She's Nettie Well's niece if I remember correctly."
"Yeah, remember she was that pretty girl who liked me so much."
"As I also recall you weren't very interested in her."
"'Course I was interested. I just didn't want to lead her on that's all."
"How gentlemanly of you. You have strong feelings for her then?"
"Well what man wouldn't? She's pretty and smart and practical. What more can you want?"
"Fire."
"Fire?"
"Yes, as in passion. That overwhelming feeling you get when you're with the right person. Suddenly you're very being starts and stops with them. I suppose that's the way you feel about Casey."
"Well..." JD mumbled, not sure what to say. He thought back to when they were having those troubles with Top Hat Bob and Casey had started to hang around town. At first he had thought she was down right annoying and when Buck had managed to get her to wear that dress he had thought she was pretty, but he had never felt desire to pursue her. Then there was Emily when they were helping her and the other working girls try and get away from Wicks. He had chased her all right, but that was really only because he was trying to prove himself to the others. Trying to make them see that he was just as much a man as they were. But in neither of these cases did he feel this fire that Ezra was talking about. Thinking back JD tried to remember a time that he had ever felt that way about someone. Suddenly he came to someone. He gasped as he realized that he was thinking of Ezra and the kiss that he had given him. Hoping that Ezra didn't notice his behavior JD peeked up from under his bangs and was relieved to see Ezra had apparently lost interest in the conversation. He was walking around the small room trying in vain to find a way of escape.
"Ezra..." JD started after about ten minutes of silence.
"Yes?"
"Nothing."
"Ezra..." JD started again after another silent period.
"Yes."
"I was... well the thing is..."
"What?" snapped Ezra losing his patience.
"Why did you kiss me?" JD blurted out before he lost his nerve again.
"Why did I kiss you?" repeated Ezra.
"Yeah."
"As I recall you were working under a set of misguided beliefs. I was merely expanding your knowledge to help you make a more informed decision."
"'Cause I'm not like that. you know. I didn't feel anything when you did it."
"Really? I must be losing my touch."
"In fact, I bet if you kissed me again I still wouldn't feel anything."
"Well, I never was one to turn down a bet."
As Ezra moved closer half of JD's mind was trying to figure why the hell he had just said that and the other half was happy that Ezra was responding the way he was. Closing the distance between them in a couple steps Ezra gently brushed JD's hair off his forehead as he leaned down and pressed his lips against JD's. Being more prepared this time JD was determined to keep his lips together, but when he felt Ezra's hands running down his back to his hips and his tongue caressing his lips he quickly lost all willpower. A couple seconds later JD was feeling braver and started to return the kiss with his tongue as well as his lips. As he started to explore the inside of Ezra's mouth and felt their tongues moving against each other, JD started to feel weak in the knees.
"Did you feel anything that time?" Ezra whispered into JD's ear as he abruptly ended the kiss.
"Fire," gasped JD after a second. He was suddenly finding it very hard to breathe.
"No, that's not fire, that hardly even qualifies as sparks."
"Then what does fire feel like?"
"Like this," Ezra replied as he gave JD another quick kiss and started to undo his gun belt. Slipping it onto the floor, Ezra undid the top of his pants and pulled them down to his ankles. Reaching up he slowly pulled JD's long underwear down as well. Ezra sucked in his breath as he saw JD's semi-erect penis. Wanting to prolong JD's pleasure Ezra started at the exposed skin at his ankles. He slowly kissed and licked his way up JD's legs. As he reached JD's mid-thigh Ezra moved his hands so that they were massaging his butt. Moaning, JD reached down and started to run his hands through Ezra's hair. Slowly moving to work on his inner thighs, Ezra was please to see that JD was completely hard. Ignoring his penis, Ezra started to lick his balls. As JD's moans got louder Ezra took first one and then the other into his mouth and started to suck.
"Oh God, Ezra..." JD gasped as he clenched his fistfuls of Ezra's hair. Temporarily ignoring JD's need for release Ezra turned his attention to the soft skin below JD's balls. He licked his way back until he reached his anus. Flicking his tongue over the puckered entrance Ezra waited till he heard a positive response from JD before he continued. After circling the opening a couple times Ezra drove his tongue inside. JD gasped at the new and wonderful sensation.
"Ezra please..." moaned JD. Seeing that JD was reaching his limit Ezra replaced his tongue with one of his fingers. As he slowly started to penetrate him Ezra returned his attention to JD's erect member which was moist with pre-cum. After applying a couple long licks Ezra took JD's entire penis into his mouth. Sucking slowly at first, Ezra quickened his pace as JD started to thrust his hips forward. Increasing to two fingers Ezra started to push in time with his sucking. It didn't take long for JD to go over the edge. Calling out Ezra's name, JD came hard and fast. Swallowing quickly Ezra was able to devour most of JD's juices. After carefully cleaning up the drops he missed with his tongue Ezra pulled JD's long underwear up over his now limp penis and then did his pants back up.
"Now that is what fire feels like," Ezra whispered as he drew JD in for another kiss. JD deepened the kiss curiously when he realized he could taste himself in Ezra's mouth.
"That was... wow." gasped JD as his legs finally gave out and he sank to the floor.
"Did it feel that great for you?"
"Words cannot expressed how exceptional an experience that was." smiled Ezra as he sat down next to JD.
"I'd like to know what it feels like from the other side," JD admitted shyly.
"We shall have plenty of time for that later. You should rest."
"I'm not tired." JD's protest was cut off by a yawn that he couldn't stop.
"You're exhausted. Now, get some sleep. I have a feeling the events of tomorrow will be very trying."
"You're right," admitted JD, too tired to put up a fight. "I feel like somebody took all the bones out of my body." Too tired to sit up, JD spread out as much as he could in the small space. Resting his head in Ezra's lap he quickly fell asleep. Ezra brushed his dark hair off his face as he watched JD sleep. It amazed him how innocent and calm JD looked when he was asleep. After awhile Ezra also drifted off to sleep.

The next morning Ezra woke up to sounds outside the vault. He wasn't sure how long they had been asleep but he thought it was safe to assume it was morning and the bank was just opening.
"JD," he called softly as he ran his fingers over JD's cheek.
"Mmmm, let me sleep five more minutes," mumbled JD, still not quite awake.
"I would love to, but it's imperative that you wake up this instant."
"We're still in the vault," JD frowned when he looked around.
"You had thought we would somehow move whilst you were sleeping?"
"No, I thought maybe it was a dream."
"No I'm afraid this is very much a reality."
"Oh."
"Perhaps I should clarify," added Ezra as he saw a hurt look pass through JD's eyes. "I regret the fact that they outwitted us and the trouble that being discovered in here will cause, but I do not regret anything else that happened."
"Are you sure? 'Cause I realize that sometimes people do things when they're upset that they don't really mean and..." JD said as he played with the buttons on his vest. Ezra cut off his ramble by taking his face in his hands and giving him a long slow kiss.
"Does that answer your question? May I inquire as to what you find so humorous?" frowned Ezra as JD started to laugh.
"I'm sorry," JD apologized as he calmed down. "I was just thinking I'm glad that Chris didn't come with me."
"As am I," replied Ezra as he started to laugh. They both fell quiet as they heard the dial on the outside of the vault being turned.
"Somebody's coming in," whispered JD. "What do we do?"
"We don't seem to have many options."
"We could run. After all they're not expecting us to be in here so they'll be surprised."
"So surprised they may end up shooting us in the backs. Remember we don't have our weapons and besides, hurting anyone will not help convince people of our story."
"So our only option is that they believe we're telling the truth?"
"At the moment the truth is all we have," replied Ezra as the bank vault slowly opened.
"What the hell?" An elderly man looked in with a shocked face.
"Good morning sir. You're probably wondering what we're doing inside of your vault..."
"George, go fetch the sheriff, and hurry!" the man yelled, cutting Ezra off.
"Please sir, there is no reason to get agitated. This is a simple misunderstanding.../"
"Just stay where you are and don't move," he said as he grabbed a shotgun from under his desk.
"Sir, you're upset and you're being redundant...."
"Just shut up you. I'll shoot you, don't think I won't."
"Maybe the sheriff will listen," JD whispered.
"What's going on here Tomas?" a voice called out.
"Sheriff! Glad you're here. I caught these two here trying to rob my bank."
"Is that so?" frowned the sheriff as he stepped in front of the vault and looked down at Ezra and JD sitting on the floor.
"Good morning sheriff, you look like a reasonable man...."
"I'm a very reasonable man and when it comes to criminals I'm a very tough man."
"That's very commendable...."
"Be quiet. Stand up slowly and put your hands in the air where I can see them. Throw your guns to the floor."
"Sir we don't have any weapons," JD spoke up as they did what they were told.
"Yeah right," snorted Tomas. "Who robs a bank with no weapons?"
"If you would just let us explain..." Ezra tried again.
"Save it for the judge," the sheriff said as he came forward and checked them for weapons. "They're clean," he announced as he stepped back. "Now if you gentlemen will head towards the jail house." Walking with their hands on their heads, Ezra and JD slowly made their way to the jailhouse as the sheriff followed behind. As they came out onto the street many people moved away from them wide-eyed. Once inside they were locked into the holding cell.
"Now what made you boys think you could rob a bank and with no weapons?" the sheriff asked as he sat down at his desk.
"Sheriff if you'll just let us explain you'll see that we were in fact not robbing the bank."
"Well, actually we were but we had a real good reason..." JD interrupted but faltered as Ezra gave him a dark look. "I'll be quiet now."
"We are working undercover on behalf of circuit court judge Orin Travis," Ezra started as he explained the entire story.
"I've heard a lot of tales in my time, but that one is certainly one of the most interesting," commented the sheriff when Ezra was finished.
"It is not a tale. If you contact Judge Travis he can vouch for us."
"Yeah, I mean if we robbed the bank, then where's the money?" protested JD. "Do you think we broke, in stole the money, and then came back and locked ourselves in the safe?"
"It would be a hell of a cover story," mused the sheriff as he wrote the judge's name on a piece of paper. "Well, I'll see if I can reach the judge to verify your story."
"In the meantime, could we be released under our own recognizance?" asked Ezra. The sheriff simply started laughing in response before he left.
"See it won't be any trouble at all," smiled JD. "As soon as he gets in touch with Judge Travis this whole thing will be straightened out."
"I hope you're right," sighed Ezra as he sat down on the bench and got ready to wait.

As the sheriff walked down the street he crumbled the paper into a small ball and tossed it into a bonfire along the side of the street. He knew that there was a good chance that they were telling the truth but it was election time. If he wanted to be voted back in he was going to have to get the town's people on his side. What better way then announcing he had captured two members of the notorious Clear Water Cutthroat gang? There was nothing like a public hanging to increase morale.
